Art Theft
Sometime during the night of May 23 and May 24, 2008, entry was gained intothe University of British Columbia Museum of Anthropology located near
Vancouver, B.C. Fifteen objects, including 12 pieces by the renowned late
Haida artist Bill Reid were stolen.
Police are asking anyone who may have information about this theft to
contact University RCMP at (604)224-1322 or if you wish to remain anonymous
to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. An anonymous TIP can also be left
online at www.bccrimestoppers.com <http://www.bccrimestoppers.com/>
If you provide information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest,
conviction or the recovery of this stolen art, you could be eligible for a
cash award up to $2,000.00 and you will never have to go to court.
The University of British Columbia is offering an award of $50,000.00 for
information leading to the recovery of the items or the arrest of person(s)
responsible for this crime. This $50,000.00 is separate from Crime Stoppers
and callers must speak with police to qualify. Police can try to keep your
identity confidential. The University's award offer expires on June 30th,
2008.
