Break and Enter

Longlac

The Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police could use your help in identifying the persons responsible for several break and enters to remote camps in an area north of Longlac.

Several campers located at the Chipman Lake campground on Chipman Lake on the Lukinto Lake Road have been broken into since November of last year.  There appears to have been two separate attacks on these camps; the November incidents, and the latest incidents reported to police in the early part of February when again generators were targeted.  The latest theft was of a blue Yamaha generator, with model # EF1000IS and serial # 7CG210480.  This particular generator also has the owner’s name engraved on top.  Police are also looking to recover another Yamaha generator, model # EF1000 and serial # 0213361.

Chipman Lake is an area accessible primarily by motorized snow vehicle during the winter months.  Police suspect that more than one individual is involved and that at least one snowmobile with a sleigh was used to transport the stolen generators.  Approximately 7.5 kilometers of unplowed road needs to be traversed to get right to the camp area.  Access to the camps themselves was gained by forcing open locked doors and cutting locks with bolt cutters.

If you have any information on these crimes…call Crime Stoppers!

Theft - copper wire

Longlac

Greenstone Provincial Police out of Longlac continue to investigate two separate thefts of copper wire from the Kenogami Diversion Dam.

The dam is located in a relatively remote area east of Longlac at mileage 13 of the Blueberry Rd.

The first incident occurred sometime between the evening of Tuesday the 29th of May and the morning of Wednesday the 4th of June.  Stolen was approximately 200 meters of copper wire with an estimated value of $1000.00.  The wire ran along the base of the dam and was being used as a ground.

The second incident occurred sometime overnight on Wednesday, the 6th of June.

With a marked increase in the value of precious metals, and in particular copper, thefts of this nature continue to be a problem for police.  Metals are sold to scrap metal dealers for significant prices.  Usually the wire is stripped before sale and sometimes this is accomplished by burning off the insulation.

Mischief

Longlac

A tractor/trailer unit was traveling east bound when the driver observed a group of about four or five persons walking west along the highway when one of them stepped out onto the roadway directly in front of the on coming truck.  The driver swerved to miss hitting any of them when a rock was thrown.  The rock struck and shattered the windshield on the driver’s side.

Police have very limited descriptions of these individuals but the one that stepped onto the roadway appeared to be female.
